Let’s start with this… There are so many terrible sales jobs available. The reasons are:
- The competitve nature of sales departments
- Sometimes we need to sell a shit product that just doesn’t work
- Markets fluctuate whilst expectations of management don’t
- Saturated Markets
Look at any Salesperson’s experience on LinkedIn and you usually see short stints at various employers. There is a real lack of longevity because most organisations have a “Churn and Burn” method with Sales staff.
So how do we find an employer that is going to look after us poor, downtrodden sales professionals? Here are some suggestions that I do hope help you in your journey:
- Message past employees/current employees on LinkedIn and ask them a few questions around the culture, commission, turnover, etc. You will be suprised at how many are willing to actually help. Are there alot of past employees with a short tenure.
- Checkout Glassdoor and read the commentary
- Be weary of “Best Places to Work” Awards, they are rarely for the sales staff but more likely for everyone non-sales
- Observe the atmosphere and way employees react during your face to face interview
- When you get a new Sales role, trust your first impressions on how the place comes accross
- Call current customers and ask how their service delivery was
Finding a sales job with a great employer that values you and offers excellent working conditions can significantly impact your career satisfaction and success. By conducting thorough research, leveraging your network, utilizing online job platforms, crafting compelling application materials, preparing for interviews, assessing company culture, and negotiating effectively, you can increase your chances of securing a sales job with an employer that appreciates and supports your professional growth. Remember, finding the right employer is a crucial step towards building a rewarding and fulfilling sales career.
