Some prospects are going to enter into a sales call with the preconieved notion that all Sales People are vagabond schmos. So what can you do as the sales person to remove or atleast lessen the resistance from the prosect?
Disarm them: “Gary, You will have to mind me I’m not great at Sales as you can probably tell haha”
Build rapport: Getting to know them on a personal level can help to build trust, making the prospect more open to hearing about your product or service.
Focus on their needs: Instead of pushing your product or service, focus on the needs and challenges of the prospect longer than usual. Ask questions to understand their pain points and offer solutions that address their specific needs. Don’t just provide features and advantages, get straight to the benefits that will solve their explicit needs.
Provide value: Show the prospect that you’re not just trying to sell them something, but that you genuinely want to help them. Offer valuable insights or resources that can help them with their business or personal goals.
Be honest: Transparency and honesty are key when dealing with prospects who have a strong dislike for salespeople. Be upfront about what you’re selling, and don’t try to hide any potential downsides or drawbacks.
Offer a trial or demo: If possible, offer the prospect a free trial or demo of your product or service. This can give them a chance to try it out for themselves, and can help to overcome any initial skepticism or resistance.
